Moffat To Race Typhoon For Australian Motor Finance

After an absence of 26 years, the name "Moffat" will once again appear on a Ford Falcon Sedan when Andrew Moffat debuts the all-new Australian Motor Finance F6 Typhoon in this year’s Australian Performance Car Championship.

Moffat will pilot the number 9 Typhoon while a yet-to-be-named driver will campaign the number 6 car. Both cars are prepared by Robinson Racing Developments from Ballarat, the same outfit associated with Allan Moffat’s 1996 Bathurst campaign.

Announcing the new 2-car team during Ford Performance Racing’s Open Day on Sunday 26 February, Denis Angeleri, Managing Director of Australian Motor Finance, said the team is the next step in an exciting motor sport journey for both company and driver. "We decided to take our brand directly to the market and we believe many of our potential customers have an interest in motor sport - we are looking forward to making our presence felt!" he said.

Ted Robinson said he had been looking for the right car for Andrew after he first saw him race his AMF Datsun Sports Sedan, "I saw the raw talent shine through and it’s certainly been borne out during testing in this car" said the former boat racer.

Moffat, a fourth year student at Melbourne University, is looking forward to the challenge, "It’s no secret that my goal has always been to race a Ford and this Typhoon is a good start."

Graphics for the new team have also been supplied by yet another Moffat old stager, Wayne Draper, the man who penned the famous Moffat Trans Am Mustang.

2006 Australian Performance Car Championship

The 2006 Australian Performance Car Championship is a National Championship conducted over seven to eight rounds. Australian Performance Car Championship pitches a wide variety of makes and models against each other, from the AWD 4 cylinder turbo cars of Subaru and Mitsubishi, to the raw V8 grunt of HSV and FPV. The field also includes the classy 6 cylinder European cars of BMW, Audi, Alfa Romeo and Volkswagen, and the rotary-powered machines of Mazda. All Performance cars begin their racing life as a standard, high performance, production car. They are slowly transformed through the removal of the interior, the fitment of safety equipment and slick tyres, and the minor modification to mechanical components such as suspension, engine management systems and the exhaust. Due to the extensive range of eligible vehicles, a parity system is used to ensure all vehicles compete on an even playing field, this results in close and exciting racing. A ballast system is used, adding weight to the first 3 place getters of each race for the following race. This system ensures varying race winners resulting in an extremely tight Championship battle and great entertainment.
